  1. Soil that is wet and gets little sun will not grow enough of anything to feed anything in winter.

It will not be a good idea to try to pasture it during winter... assuming it may be better in summer. Hooves will damage both grass and soil.

You need sun, to grow any crop.

  2. rye grass is good and maybe even oats!

  3. feed them termites, flies, and extremely small children.

  4. Summer said it right -- check with your local ag extension agent.  Length of growing season, average daily temperature, last date of spring frost, first fall frost, average rainfall, water table depth, shade/sun, etc. all affect which grasses to grow.  Your local agent can give you pamphlets with growing information as well as resources for more information for your area.

  5. try wheat it grows well in cold weather.

  6. rye grass, oats, and clover

  7. I don't know where you're at, but Reed Canary grass would probably fit the bill fairly well.  For grazing, choose a low alkaloid variety like Pallatain or Venture.  Many people consider reed to be a low quality forage, but that's because many don't graze or hay it until it's developed stems and seed heads.  Graze it earlier and animals love it and do well on it.

Eastern gammagrass will do well in wet environments and is a warm season grass, meaning it grows well during hot weather.  However, it does like sunshine and that could limit production  in your case.

  8. With the area being dark and wet most of the time, I'd not have a clue what kind of pasture you could possibly grow successfuly....  but I'd probably look into a clover first...such as white clover. A legume such as Lespedeza?

    Or what about Bermuda?

Reasearch those to see if they will grow in your soil conditions for starters....

That said, I think it's best that you contact your County Agriculture Extension agent to help you out with this delima..

    Good Luck
