I have a 20 gallon tank for my map turtle and her water gets dirty too fast with the filter we have. I was wondering what is the best one?

  1. Any canister filters will do, I recomend Rena xp3, because it is a very powerful canister filter, and cleans very well. This would be perfect for turtles, since they are really messy. And oh yeah try to upgrade to at least a 50 gallon tank, 20 gallons is pretty small, even for a map turtle.

  2. any whisper.marineland.

go to walmart they are under 30.00.

how big is your turtle?A red eared slider?

  3. Here's a nice article on filtration systems.  With these turtles an outside the tank filter might be best, as that is a small tank and they do not like a lot of water movement.

  4. Tetra Whisper In-Tank Power Filter PF-20i (10-20 Gallon)

Tetra Whisper In-Tank Power Filter PF-40i (20-40 Gallon)

IN-TANK FILTER 20i - Superquiet power filtration - For 10 to 20 gallon aquariums - Easy to conceal inside your aquarium - Great for turtle tanks too! ....

    hope this helps

  5. The rule of thumb for turtles is a large external filter- aim for one 2-3 times the size of the tank- in this case, a 40-60 gallon filter.

Just FYI- 20 gallons will be tight for the Map Turtle soon enough- you may want plan for a bigger habitat soon.
