I know people that say the best thing to do is shoot from the pointed and middle but Tracy McGrady shoots with his middle finger and he is a cold shooter. Also Kobe shoots with his pointer finger and we all know kobe is a killer shooter. But there is also some good shooters that shoot with there Pointed, Middle, and there Ring finger.

So what should I do??

  1. You use all your four fingers to shoot. Your thumb is just their to help keep the ball in your hand. You should release the ball so that your pinkie lets go of it first, then your ring finger, then you middle finger, and lastly your index finger.

Good Luck becoming a deadly shooter!

  2. Well hey use your thumb .

  3. the best way to be consistent is to shoot with your pointed and middle finger.  If you square up your shoulders to the basket, keep your elbow straight, and follow through with a snap of the wrist...you eliminate two sources of error in your shot (right or left of the basket).  That means the only way you can miss it is to be either long or short.

You watch, the best shooters will have this motion.  Now that doesn't mean you can't develop into a good shooter with horrible mechanics (see Reggie Miller).  But if you want to learn the right way, this is it.  If you start young with this motion you will develop into a better shooter.  And if you get real good, you might be able to make the Olympic team, because nobody can shoot on that team, as of yet.

  4. wow, dude i cant believe u actually asked this question, hey it doesnt really matter how you shoot the ball, as long as it go in, people have weird styles to shoot, some shoot curved like Manu Ginobilli, others have weird free throw shots, so it doesnt matter how you shoot, you just have to be consistant, however whenever i shoot i usually shoot with my middle finger and i play shooting guard for highschool but like i said its not that its you have to be consistant thats what counts.

  5. SHOOT FROM THE MIDDLE, USE THE TWO(POINT AND RING) TOO GUIDE YOU THRU TROUBLE ANGLES FOR YA!!!!!

  6. I suggest you practice shooting the ball for a bit, and when you start making a bunch of shots, check wht fingers you're using, and stick with tht. The point is to just shoot with whatever feels comfortable.

  7. There are allot of fundamental rules to shooting a basketball. Like elbow placement and ball release. If you want to study perfect forms look at JJ Redick or Ray Allen.
