Hi - the best fish & chip shop in the west end is in Covent Garden on Endel Street (WC1). It's repudily the oldest fish and chip shop in London. I don't normally eat fish and chips, but would recommend this place to anyone. Enjoy.

Forget London go to Nemos on the Isle of white ,its worth the money to get there ,there is nowhere better in the world that i know of and i have been to 100s.ask for Len the manager a character you wont forget

dont know one in the west end, but on a bus nip over to peckham south london and grab urself some pie an mash from manzies on tower bridge road  ur like it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bentleys is THE BEST fish and chip restuarant in London.  Here is a brief

Bentley’s has reopened following its acquisition & loving makeover by renowned chef Richard Corrigan. On the ground floor there’s a swish cocktail bar & a separate oyster bar, where it’s possible to perch on stools for solo dining or sit with companions at proper tables for the likes of langoustine mayonnaise & fish pie as well as both rock & native oysters. Upstairs, meanwhile, the gorgeous petrol blue & cream fine-dining room is where Corrigan really shows off the kind of flair that’s won him a Michelin star at Lindsay House in Soho. A two-duck-egg omelette wrapped in cured salmon with a dollop of crème fraîche & a garnish of watercress was perfection on a plate, at once both light & full of flavour. A main course of lobster sautéed with garlic, chilli & ginger, served with a bowl of noodles & mange-tout, was another winner & typical of the menu’s wide range of culinary influences. Service on our visit was, admittedly, rather slow but it was also charming &, overall, we reckon Bentley’s has instantly joined London’s premier restaurant league.

‘Simply the best fish restaurant in London’, J Sheekey continues to be ‘just marvellous in every way’, impressing diners on all levels. It’s the ‘totally charming service’, ‘cosy atmosphere’, ‘vibrant mix of relaxed business & social clientele’, ‘fantastic selection of white wine’ & ‘impeccable food’ that make it ‘so hard to find anything else like it in London’. And despite being ‘full of famous faces’, Sheekey is refreshingly down-to-earth: ‘it’s not at all posh’, with similarly unpretentious, no-frills food to match. Menu recommendations include ‘to-die-for’ razor clams, ‘dressed crab so fresh it could have walked to the table’, pan-fried skate wing with brown butter & capers &, of course, the inimitable Sheekey’s fish pie. Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that ‘it can be tough getting a primetime table’ (& even if you do, don’t expect to occupy it all evening). But book well enough in advance & Sheekey’s is ‘superb any day of the week’, & especially for a lazy weekend lunch.

There are no really, really good, genuine fish and chip shops in the west end, you need to go out of central london. Basically zone 2 and beyond.

Here is one my favourites..

1)Sherpherds Bush Tube (Hammersmith&City not Central)

Turn right, walk straight for about 5 seconds. There is a Chip Shop on your right. Run by to Polish Guys who look abit like Ant and Dec. Great Fish and Chips. Great Kebabs.

FACTS.When buyng fish and chips.

1) It should cost between £4-£6. If it is more, then it is too expensive. You are getting ripped off.

2) A good chip shop will usually sell 'Pukka Pies' along with fish cakes, sausage in batter, elc. all of which is displayed in front of you behind a glass window thingy.

3) You should be able to see all the fish fried and ready in the window thingy, and be able to pick the one you want.

4)Tastes great with salt and vinegar. Maybe abit of ketchup or mayo. However, tartar sauce goes really well with the fish.

5)If you are taking the chips wrapped to eat at home, then be sure to stop the bloke/lady and add some salt and vinegar .

Also, taste a chip there and then. If it tastes cold or stale, point it out then. Some, not all, chip shops will try to give you cold stale chips. This is usually after a lunch rush or just before closing.

This is because they sometimes make to many chips while they are busy.

Some of this doesn't sell. A little while later, you walk in and they try to pull a fast one. Be careful.

6)Once you are a regular, they usually treat you alot better. ie Give you extra chips, that are more fresher, etc.
