  1. I agree with Airflow, Sufix makes the best line whether it be braided or mono, they are just good. I always use their braided line. I have tried the other types, and they just don't compare. It's strong and it's smoother casting. I've had other braided lines snap on me just getting caught on the bottom, with Sufix my rod snapped before but my line did...lol.

    Tight lines!!!

  2. Lol, i don't like p-line either, i normally fly fish for steelhead but when i don't its always sufix, ive tried berkley trilene and maxima but for some reason i always go with sufix, its due to its stretch that can absorb hard takes plus its easy to detect in the water making it easier to track your bait.

Stren original in gold is also excellent, its also good for salmon.

  3. Berkely 100% Florocarbon 10-12 lb test line should work

  4. I use 4 pound P Line CX  for ultralight panfishing, and I believe that's all it's good for. Trilene XT and XL are my lines of choice, but last weekend a buddy of mine showed me the line he swears by. It's called Gamma. Gamma Edge to be exact. That's if fluorocarbon is your thing. After using it for just one day, I have a new first choice in fluoro. It's just too dang expensive! I'm not a steelhead fisherman and not even sure if fluoro is a steelhead anglers choice, but if inferior line is a big problem, I'd check it out.

  5. I do alot of steely fishing on the American river in Sacramento ( 35 years)  and my choice is maxima chameleon its kinda greenish in color and blends in with the water real well, I use 8lb main and depending on water clarity 6 to 4 lb leader. Remember steelies have excellent eye site and 9 times out of ten they will see you before you see them, if you use to heavy of a line it will spook them and they will just shy away from your offering, be it roe, nightcrawler, or beads or whatever. Have caught em up 19 lbs on light line, its takes patience, and alot of work to land em on light line but when you see them tail dance and make impresive leaps out of the water and then put them on the bank to get your pics before letting them go everything else is a moot point

  6. Which P-Line are you using??  I don't really like the CXPremium or the HALO, or the Evolution.  I swear by the CXX though.  It's a totally different line.

I use the 6 and 8lb for steelhead and salmon fishing norcal rivers.  If you haven't tried the CXX, please do.  I too don't like the other P-Line products, but the CXX is grat.  Super strong and fairly ideal line stretch.

The other lines I'll use for steelhead are Izorline, Seguar (flouro leaders), and sometimes braids.  At that small a diameter and lb-test, I can't dittinguish too many differences in the brands.  But if I had to put an order to them, it would be Sufix, PowerPro, and lastly TufLine.

To FISHCATCHNFOOL - Maxima Chameleon is burgundy in color.  Maxima Ultragreen is the greenish one.  Are you sure you're saying the right thing??  (I too fish the AR on a regular basis.  And I'm a lightline fanatic, using mainly 4lb or 6lb for steelhead and 6lb and 8lb for salmon/striper.)
