I have two cats that are severely infested with fleas. They are miserable.

Is there a good treatment that works and isn't too pricey?

  1. Revolution for cats - $15.00/month  - you want quality when dealing with animals; Revolution also takes care of ear mites, ticks, worms, and is a mosquito repellent

  2. Unfortunately there aren't any that i know that aren't pricey. Advantix is the one that we use now. It's good because it also helps prevent and treat other parasites (like ticks if you hadn't already guessed lol). We used to use Frontline, but it stopped being effective after a while, and then it was again, so we gave it up as an unreliable product, but there are many people i know that will swear by it. Btw, as your cats have such a bad infestation, i would also get a house spray/bomb, as most fleas don't actually live on your cat but in carpets and such. Get two; one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Lock them upstairs and get out of the house while you spray/detonate downstairs and then reverse when it's ok again (time will be specified on the product, can't remember it myself). Also get one for you car, as they will even be in the carpets there. Hope this will help you!

  4. You have to pay for quality (do NOT use Hartz!). I recommend Frontline, which you can get at any vet. It worked wonders on my cat. If you get the cat size, it is about $35-40 for a three pack. Unfortunately, you need to keep them on it for a few months to get rid of any fleas that may hatch (eggs laid in your house). You can get a larger dog size for a little more and only use a portion of the packet. That way you get more for your money.

  5. I agree, the best flea treatments are not inexpensive. We have been using Revolution for about five years (not for fleas but as a heartworm preventative, although it also works against fleas) and have never seen a flea on any of our cats. It is not cheap, however. But it works. It also protects against ear mites, an added bonus.
