Would laminate peel if it got wet? Obviously carpet seems like a bad choice. Any ideas or experience you'd like to share?

Thanks!!

  1. Laminate will NOT work.  The best will be ceramic tile.  Also outdoor carpet, its made to be wet.  Also vinyl tile, not the selfstick, but the old fashion commercial kind.

  2. You will need to install a subfloor. There are plastic subflooring tiles, avaiable in one foot by one foot or two by two foot tiles that provide a small space below for drainage, insulation from the cold concrete, and something to attach your flooring to. One product I have seen before is ThermalDry basement floor tiles. You will still want to stay away from organic flooring material, like wood, nut carpet should be fine.

  3. Concrete is always a good option, and I think it can look quite chic. If you want something more decorative, tile would be nice and it's waterproof enough to be used outside and in showers.

  4. We use a roll of Abzorb Mats, cut to size / shape around washer, dry, water heater, etc. to help with protection.

    Find them here: (no affil):

And protect other flooring , too, with them... (we use these in dog areas):

    Cheap and sturdy stuff!!
