  1. Fresh meat.

  2. Avoid food with grain.

Most of the "top of the line" dog foods you'll find at your local chain supermarket or pet market primarily use corn which can't even be properly digested by most omnivores let alone dogs. Without getting crass, think of how you digest corn or how corn has contributed to the exploding rate of obesity in the US, and ask yourself if that's what you should be feeding your dog - an obligate carnivore.

It doesn't really matter what brand as long as you avoid the grains.

I personally use "Nature's Variety - Instinct" for both my dogs and cats. It's a grain free brand that's actually cheaper than Iams and Science Hill and uses tapioca as a binder over potato. They love the food (chicken flavor), their coats are healthier, their moods are better, they shed less hair, and are much more muscular/leaner.

At the very least, avoid Science Hill. They pay for the education of a lot of vets and that's why vets tend to endorse them. They overload their food with corn and fillers. Many cats and dogs are actually allergic to their food.

  3. Alpo or imported brands that can nourish ur new dog!

    I hope it helps!! =]

Ingredients that should not be listed in the dog food

Best to go with a Natural brand from an authorized pet store......not the local grocery store.

Your dog will love you for it!
