My wife is little worried becuase of low amniotic fluid level. Yesterday she went for Ultrascanning and doctor says the baby's growth fine as of now, but the level of the liquid should increase otherwise it might effect the growth. She entered 6 now and daily taking 4 liters of water, almost bed rest since one month but the level is not upto the minimum. She also lost weight for 2kgs. She couldn't eat because of taking more liquid items, like glucose, cocunut water, 4 literse of water and juices. Doctor says to eat and drink more to increase weight and the liquid level.

Can anyone suggest the food and liquid items which increases her weight and also the liquid level?

  1. I had low amniotic fluid when I was pregnant and my baby stopped growing at 32 weeks.  They didn't catch it until I was 36 weeks, and I was induced immediately because of it.  I asked my Dr. if there was something I could have done to stop that from happening and she said "No".  She said if I would have ate cardboard and didn't drink anything and was on drugs this would have been "my fault" but, I wasn't doing any of those things so, I wouldn't have been able to change anything.

Your wife needs to continue drinking but, also eating many nutritious meals through out the day.  If she is filling up on water and not hungry that is not good either.  She needs to cut back on fluids and eat something substantial.

    All the best!

  2. I Know that they can give her an infusion to increase the levels. But i think that what your doing is good.

  3. You cant increase the fluid level by eating or drinking.  That is something that your body just does naturally and nothing you do will make your body produce more.  The best thing she can do is to stay on bedrest.

  4. Oral and IV fluids are the only way to increase the amniotic fluid level.  If the doctor is truely worried about her levels, he should put her on IV therapy.

  5. lay on left side 10 minutes or so every couple of hours.

    drink water.

    avoid caffeine.

    limit physical activity.

just make sure she stays hydrated.

drink even if shes not thirsty.

  6. I don't think there is anything you can eat or drink to increase amniotic fluid... at least I have never heard of anything. And I consider myself pretty well read on pregnancy matters.  If anything, it would be lots and lots of water.  Water is the best thing that our bodies can get.
