  1. A guinea pigs diet should consist of:

An unlimited amount of timothy hay, available at all times.

A variety of fresh veggies daily.

    Some good quality pellets.

The ONLY good quality pellets available in the UK are Oxbow. (Cavy Performance for babies under 6 months, or Cavy Cuisine for pigs over 6 months). They are excellent quality.

I order mine online from this place as I also get to donate to a piggie rescue when I order!

  2. My pigs love carrots, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, corn on the cob, apples, pears, absolutely adore dandelions and grass. Dried food wise I tend to buy them Gertie Guinea pig or WAGG which most shops tend to sell like tesco, wilkinsons, pets at home etc.

  3. We buy the guinea pig food pellets from pets at home and our piggies love it. You can also give them the following:

Apples, bananas, pears, strawberries, oranges, grapes, peppers, cucumber and turnips.

I also read somewhere that you should NOT feed them Iceburg lettuce, all varieties of green cabbage, potatoes, colliflower and raw beans.

    Hope this helps :)

  4. just give it guinea pig food

  5. Gertie Guinea pig is good, and what we used to feed our guinea pigs when we bred them, although vets reccomend feeding a pelleted concentrate food such as Burgess Excel instead of a mixed food since it helps ensure they get a complete diet rather than allowing them to pick out the sweet parts.  It is important to help keep your Guinea Pigs teeth healthy by encouraging them to eat plenty of fresh hay and grass. Guinea Pigs must also be fed a food designed specifically for them, not food for rabbits as they need extra Vitamin C.  And no, no need to worry about the ash- it's actually good for their digestions.

  6. Yorkshire pudding and Lancashire hotpot. But not mixed.

  7. Excel Guinea Pig is the best, it's a complete diet so they won't leave any to waste. Don't go for a cheaper option such as Wagg Guinea Pig Crunch as the Vitamin C content decreases dramatically.

  8. What are the ingredients in the P@H pellets?

I personally use Oxbow pellets. Good, plain pellets made with timothy hay (for adults) or alfalfa hay (for youngsters).  Here's a list of UK retail locations:

  9. The pets at home pellets are fine and are made by another well known pellet maker which is also stocked in p@h.  Gerty isnt so good has too many colourings and not recommended,

Wagg is ok and I would say one of the better quality ones along with Tesco's own brand which is in the Purple bag, both of these are a muesli mix and if you don't want to have selective feeding then a pellet food is a better option.

My pigs are on p@h pellets at the moment until the bag is finished and then they will be changed over to burgess pellets as I can get them slightly cheaper some else but they are stocked at p@h.

It is worth noting that their food whether a mix or pellet is only to accompany their daily veggies, hay and grass which should be their main diet.

    Hope this helps
