  1. There are many brands and types.  It depends on you and your wallet.  If you can afford the "better" foods like Royal Canin that are breed specific - go for it.  If you need good food without the big cost - I like the Purina brands.  My Maine's eat Friskies Feline Favorites with Dental Diet mixed in.  They get a small spoonful of Friskies wet food (only the shredded or sliced) every other day.  As for treats - mine like Temptations Dental.  They get 4-5 pieces before we go to bed every night and when they've done something good (positive reinforcement).  We also will give them a small spoonful of Tuna in water as a treat in place of wet food.

Ask your vet what is best for your cat.  Some folks will say dry food is bad for your cat - if it was, they wouldn't sell so much and it would be in the news.

  2. Cats can be very picky about foods. Most vets and experts recommend high end foods such as Iams or Science Diet. My cats have been on a Kit and Kaboodle since they were kittens and they are happy and healthy. As for treats, my cats love the tartar control treats such as Pounce. There are also recipes for homemade cat treats.

  3. where do you live because it depends on what pet food we can advise you on,where i live in the uk the best tinned foods are felix,whiskers,kit-e-kat and classic, and my cats treats are prawns, ocean sticks, and some double cream..

  4. limit treat intake, but food...make sure it has good oils for fur, minerals for good health, and yummy meats ( just for a  happy kitty)

  5. friskies

    cats love friskies can food

    my cat does!

the dry food for your cat; you should buy friskies or meow mix

    treats come in small bags

    ask the store

  6. The best treats for your cat is plain meat like chicken or turkey or something like that.

here are the tools to pick the best foods

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process.  Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.    The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies  whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp...

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets  The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza.  http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04...

  7. i think purina is because it helps the digestive system and the metabolism too.it may be expensive but your cat will be throwing up less.

  8. my cat loves Fancy Feast.

  9. I have found Purina Brand Dry CAt Food to be good.  I usually buy the urinary tract formula as that is a common problem in cats.  It is does not contain certain ingredients which are bad for cats that many pet food companies do not bother to leave out.

  10. My cats love the dentabites.  They are great for their teeth also.  They also have them in milk flavor.

  11. Cats need lots of protein.  Read the protein content and go for high protein rather than fillers.  Mine are indoor and I prefer higher quality foods like Iams and Science Diet.  Less hits the litter box and more absorbed by kitty. Be careful with packaged treats - most are not very good for them.  Instead, when cooking for yourself, save back some of the chicken, steak etc. then microwave it later for kitty as a special snack.

  12. Food without a doubt is WELLNESS, it is free of corn, corn gluten, wheat gluten and soy and by-products, it is full of protein vitamins and minerals, I feed nothing but the best for my cats, and wellness is the best, Pet-Co is now carrying it, a 5# bag is around $10 but they eat less because there is no fillers and the poo's are smaller and there is hardly any oder, I feed canned wellness in the morning and dry throughout the day, treats I give pieces of real chicken, Turkey and Tuna steaks, and once and a while i give Friskies temptations, its not the greatest treat, but they love them so much, wellness has treats as well and I do feed them too,
