  1. Ubuntu

  2. Windows Defender ? yeah right, it cant even defend you if the virus were in front of it dancing

  3. There are lots of free ones and most do a great job. I personally use ClamWin. Available free (obviously) at http://www.clamwin.com/

  4. Windows defender is not good why do you think you got it for free?

As far as free there is nothing free spend money on a good firewall good firewalls cost so go with avg or defender pro.

  5. There are many to choose from. This is why you have many opinions. I personally have 7 pc's in my home. If I am not doing any banking/business stuff on them then I run AVG and spybot search and destroy. I am in the process of using 2 others that do require a fee which is trend micro and now I recently heard great things about  trying out Stopzilla. SO far so good on that one as well. The answer is AVG, hands down if you are not going to places you should not be at. and even then if you go to the right places to watch or view those things there are ones that are not as bad as others.

    Enjoy,

    Don

  6. To be honest Free ones suck, The Best one to buy is  ESET NOD32, it doesnt goble memory or slow computer down like Nortons or Mcaffee.

  7. Avast is the best free anti virus out there, even better than some you pay for.

    http://www.avast.com/

  8. Windows Defender provides more of a firewall than anything else.

Use AVG- it's reliable and free.  Get it from www.free.avg.com, or just search for it on Google

There's nothing wrong with AVG- I use it and its just fine

  9. well, I have avg, I have had it a year and have never had a virus

  10. windows defender is not an antivirus.

Go with Mcafee. Stay away from Norton's products.

There are a few free antivirus apps out there.

Stay away from "Antivirus XP 08" this is a very malicioud spyware/virus. Do not install it.

  11. No, it's not enough.

If you really have to have it "free" go for Avast.

Whatever you do, don't use AVG.

Mr. Hootal is correct, ESET is the way to go.

    McAfee is good too.

    Anyone touting AVG:

    http://www.eset.com/products/compare-NOD...

Check out how many in the wild viruses it misses.  It's definition based ONLY and the definitions are second rate, they come after Norton, McAfee, or ESET gets them, which means virtually all file servers are already guarded against the viruses it could help you with.

For those making fun of Defender:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Def...

It is not a firewall, it's not antivirus, it's antispyware.

    Research before you answer.

  12. A very good, free anti-virus available to download is AVG 8 AntiVirus:

    http://www.free.grisoft.com

    Or Avast! 4 AntiVirus:

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...

And for any spyware problems, get SpyBot - Search and Destroy:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirro...

Also, for protecting your personal info and files, use Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition:

    http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_fr...

All of them are free, as powerful as paid programs, like Norton and McAfee, and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.

    Hope that helps.

  13. Windows defender is an anti-spyware.

    It is not an antivirus.

I, however, do recommend AVG, i find AVAST annoying, and the detection rates of both are pretty poor.

(I can't find the website I originally used)

    Get Nod32.
