What is the best furniture

Question

My husband and I just recently purchased our first home. Now we are looking to furnish it. Now we are looking to purchase Bedroom and Living Room furniture. We are wondering who makes the best furniture. We found just because the name is a popular one does not mean that the quality is great. We are looking for furniture that will last for years to come. We would love any information that you may have. Thanks for your time.

I purchased Temple living room furniture because it is still made the old fashioned way. It has 8 way hand tied springs in it. Your more expensive stores will carry the better furniture.

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS on your new home. You're right - quality is a bit low in this day and age and inspecting a piece top to bottom is the best trick. Look for tight stitching, staples/nails on upholstered furniture to be close together to hold material in place. What is the material? Will it hold up - Ask the salesperson, or better yet, go online and look up material types. As for wood pieces look at joints, drawer slides, hinges, etc. Remember that drawer pulls/handles/hinges can be replaced for a better look/quality. Depending on your taste - look at antique, 2nd hand stores. You can find vintage/older furniture that was made more solidly and paint out, add to or take away to make it unique. Just a little imagination and muscle is all you need. If I may suggest - a coordinating set of furniture is no longer the "look" (ie. a 5 piece bedroom set). Find a more eclectic grouping by looking around and buying what you like - looking for pieces that fit a theme/color/style. Good luck in your home. LT
