  1. Chess.  Best game for exercising the mind.  Chess stengthens your skill in other endeavors, such as math problem-solving, verbal reasoning, memory, organizational skills, reading, concentration, logical thinking and creativity.

  2. Monopoly, because it is awesome!

  3. Guess who because... I don't know i just happen to like it.

  4. Life. Classic, and fun.

  5. RISK

It has so many elements of game play, its like the history of the invading world leaders, wrapped up in a board game. battle and overtake land. well the dice are in control most of the time but it is fun.

  6. CHESS  and also all variants relating to chess such as bughouse, atomic, and losers

  7. candy land:]]

  8. chess, it involves allot of thinking and just because someone is bigger and stronger than you they can't beet you. Chess is the most fair game no one can win without truly the most practice and skill, but in other games it is left up to luck or whoever is biggest or strongest, I know it takes work to be big and strong but more people are naturally big and strong than naturally smart. But the best reason i like the game so much is that it is almost impossible to be cheated on.

That is why I think chess the best game ever.

  9. Monopoly because there are so many variations.  I just ordered Sun-Maid Raisins Monopoly.  Yummy.

  10. video game...STAR CRAFT.

10 year old and still has a giant online community.  Very strategic game, were experts dont get beat by newbs.

  11. cranium

its fun and a great game if you have played it you know what i'm talking about

  12. In terms of popularity and longevity, you'd have to put Chess and Monopoly up there.  Personally, my favorite game of all time is called "1830: The Game of Railroads and Robber Barons", which was made by Avalon Hill.  You manage railroad companies, build track, buy trains, and try to outsmart your opponent through the buying and selling of railroad stocks.  The thing I like best about it is that there are no dice, so there's really no element of luck involved (unless maybe you consider your position at the table and who happens to sit next to you, but that's pretty much true for any game).

  13. Chess and Scrabble stand the test of time as good classic games, yes, but they lack the flavour that you can get with many others. Monopoly is a complete no - as it lacks depth and variety and is often dragged out as a response when there are so many better games out there. Risk is another no - a gateway game of old, but heavily based on luck.

Puerto Rico, Tigris and Euphrates, Ra and Railroad Tycoon are all top games on Board Game Geek (amongst others). Sure they are not to everyone taste, but they are good games and have more depth.

Personal favourites include Fury of Dracula, Twilight Imperium 3, Struggle of Empires, Imperial, Arkham Horror, Tide of Iron and Axis and Allies.

The best game overall? This is obviously subjective yes and the overall 'best' may come down to a popularity contest, my choice would be threefold: a) epic status - Twilight Imperium 3 - its an epic space conquest game that allows players to gain strength in three aspects of power, namely warfare, economics and politics. Whilst conquest and power in these areas helps increase resources and influence (2 important 'currencies' in the game), players win by achieving objectives. Thus, aggressive players can have an advantage in acquiring more resources and influence (by conquering planets), other players can still have a major say in the game and can still win - because the objectives are more important. Can take hours to play, which is a negative for many, but this should be factored in when playing. The game lends itself well to a roleplaying. b) Standard themed game - Fury of Dracula - a fun cooperative game that has theme, challenge and variety of play with a roleplay element. c) Classic - ok probably Chess - relatively simple with degrees of difficulty that has stood the test of time.

  14. Scrabble

  15. Monopoly because it never gets boring. You always land on new squares and you can learn from every game. It also involves strategy and thought. Plus, it can be played (and still be fun) with 3-6 people. What more can you ask from a game?

  16. MONOPOLY is the best game that is ever made because there is about a lot of version of that game there is one on the simpsons and the tree house of horror, Stoner, spongebob, Nentdo, well there is a game store that is in Tucson,Az that has a lot of monopoly board game like there is one were you can make your own

  17. RISK is so much fun!!!!!

  18. Strip poker--well, isn't it obvious?

  19. Monopoly. One can buy properties, rent a site and so on.Besides,it has a lot of versions ranging from junior to Macdonalds edition. One would love the game after you had tried it.

  20. Even though my chess days are behind me, I'd have to say chess.  However, after that, it has to be scrabble.  Monopoly is boring.......you buy whatever you land on....big whoop.  In scrabble, EVERY game is a brand new game. You never know what letters you're gonna get, or what letters your opponent is going to put down. Or which directions are going to built on. Intelligence, Strategy, defense, vocabulary, luck of the draw, bluffing............awesome.  All monopoly has is luck of the draw.

  21. Don't laugh, but I love Taboo - it's just so much fun!!  :)

Another great game, that's harder to find, but can be played with just two people is Carcassonne.  It's awesome and never gets old.

  22. monopoly because everyone can play and it can last for hours
