Question:

What is the best garden hose?

I'm looking for a simple garden hose, and I'm considering one of those flat hoses. However, I've heard some bad stuff about them blowing apart, and that you have to run them to their full length to use them. I've heard bad things about coiled hoses, too.

I've also bought medium duty hoses (I think nylon), that kink even on the first use. I wonder if it's worth the money to buy a good rubber hose. And, if so, which one to buy?

  1. the coil hoses they sling back when your done

  2. Its worth it to buy the better hoses. They should say if they are the ones that dont kink. The good ones around here are usually light green.

  3. Ah, yes, I went through just what you did, and threw away more garden hoses than I can remember until I got smart and bought good ones. I now buy the rubber hoses, not the vinyl ones with the little wire mesh. Avoid those unless you're buying professional quality which would be very expensive. I can't recommend any brands because I'm in Canada and besides, who remembers the brand of a garden hose? But I have several different rubber hoses, they're all good. If they kink while you're handling them, they unkink right away and don't hold onto the kink. Let price be your guide. The more you pay, the better it will be, and stay with a major brand. I paid $50 for a 50-foot hose last week. But right now, they're starting to go on sale for the end of the season so look for a deal. I find that for storage and handling it's better to stay at 50 feet max and just have a few hoses instead of buying longer ones. Look after it: coiling it properly will help keep it in good condition.  The little coiled hoses are okay for specific things where you don't want to haul a heavy hose, such as for the deck or a small garden, but they tend to snarl themselves up if you're not very careful. They come unsnarled all right but it's a crazy-making job.

  4. I have a black craftsman hose that i found at OSH, it is the best hose I have yet. and believe me I have tryed them all!
