  1. All gasoline is the same. premium, regular, whatever, it all comes from the same tank. What makes it different is additives that are mixed in when the fuel is transfered to the tanker truck that delivers the fuel to the gas station.

Some gas stations add extra additives and detergents that help make the fuel burn more complete and clean the inside of your engine. Shell and Chevron have the best quality fuel as a result of their additives.

Does that mean its worth an extra 50 cents a gallon? No way. The reason those two gas stations you mentioned charge more is simply because they are close to the highway, and they can charge more and people will pay it.

Does rotten robbie have good gas? I don't know that I really like the name, but I'm sure the gas is ok. it won't void your warranty or cause any damage, but it probably doesn't have some of the great new detergents that chevron has.

I spend a little extra to buy shell rather than discount gas, but I pay 5 cents more, thats worth it to me. I wouldn't pay over 10 cents more for name brand gas.  If you are really worried about it get a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and add it to your tank and that will clean up any residue left behind by cheap gas.

  2. the retailer of fuel means nothing.  do you honestly think "Rotten Robbie" has his own fuel refinery?  ...didn't think so.  however, i would try to get gas from other stations as well.  different companies put different detergents in the fuel that are supposed to "help cars run longer!!"  but all they really do is cause soot to build up in the cars oil.  by switching your stations every couple tanks, the different additives will burn each other off.
