I have a small 250 (actually 230) cc 5-gear zongshen gs250. I am wondering what is the best speed to be going in each gear 1-5. If i want to go a steady 40-45mph, what is the best gear for that constant speed on a 250 cc bike?

  1. 40MPH plus...  top gear...  unless your still picking up speed.

  2. always redline it in every gear

  3. Watch your rpm's, they really determine when you wanna shift. On my sportbike im at least 5000 rpms before I shift.

  4. Listen to the motor, it will let you know when to shift.

  5. first your 250cc (most bikes no matter what cc are less than what they are called it is just a rounding off so we can make a group for license and taxation--200/250/350/400/500/550 & so on.) dont ask what speed in what gear --just listen to your engine talk to you--dont rev the guts out and change gear when it sounds smooth----to save fuel & 40-45 get into top gear ---i can ride my 1000cc kaw in top gear smoothly at 40mph --experience comes with riding --take care.
