  1. Intrepid makes great points. You are talking about a singlespeed--a bike that comes with one speed. Make sure the bike has hand operated brakes, instead of a coaster brake, they are much safer.

You should spend about $400 to $700 on a good bike. Check out the Bianchi San Jose, for example, however there are plenty of others from all the major bike manufacturers.

Buy it from a local bike shop you like--I mean one where you can go in a get great service, because a shop like that will keep you rolling a good long time.

  2. If it does't have gears, how does it move?

  3. No gears? Interesting concept. I think true push bikes have no gears.

  4. What you're looking for is called a single speed bike. What's the best bike of any kind? The one that meets your needs and fits well. Go to your local bike shop, tell them what  you want, where and how you want to ride, and how much money you want to spend. They will match you up with the bike that best meets your needs. Test ride the bike. Then, go to other bike shops and test ride what they have to offer. One bike will fit you and feel better than the others. You'll be able to tell very soon after sitting on the bike and test riding it for just a few minutes. Buy that bike regardless of the brand name. All that really matters among bikes at similar price points is fit and feel. Ignore fancy brochures and marketing hype.
