  1. Don't get caught up in the HDMI cable BS. Of all the rated cables out there, none have proven any better than the others. Save your money for the important things and buy the cheaper cables.

  2. I have to disagree completely with John. I purchase all of my hdmi cables from monoprice.com and haven't paid over $20. They are high quality Cat 2,  24 guage, hdmi 1.3a cables that are well constructed. You can find similar at other sellers but I would suggest monoprice because I've had such good luck with them.

  3. I would recommend anything over $50.00 (Australian).

Look for ones that have thick shielding and thick cables, this means NO interference, and superior picture due to lower resistance.

Also, make sure it's gold plated, to help conductivity.

Never use the crappy $20.00 ones, they just won't last!

  4. Don't get caught up in the scam that is high-priced HDMI cables.  Do you know what the difference is between a $2 cable and a $120 cable?  The answer: NOTHING!

If you search on Amazon.com, you'll find HDMI cables for less than $2, though when you total up shipping and all, it'll be closer to $5.  No matter, because that's $50-$100 cheaper than you can find in any electronics store, and you don't even have to leave your house.  They work exactly the same as said overpriced cables.

  5. Cables in general, and HDMI in particulalr is where the stores/salespeople make a killing from ignorant consumers. With caveats re longer connection distances there will be no significant difference in picture quality between cheap and expensive HDMI cables ... it will either work or it won't. Beyond that there are physical/build quality diffferences that you should consider.

But don't take my (or anyone here's) word for it ... read the articles at the 1st and 2nd links ... then decide and buy accordingly.

The last link is to an excellent source for information on HDMI cables put together by a US company who make top notch cables at fair prices ... for when you want an alternative to Chinese cables.

If I wanted a simple, short (under 2 m / 6 ft) HDMI cable I'd look to Monoprice.com. For longer or in wall installable cables I'd look to Blue Jean Cables.

  6. HDMI is a digital signal.  It's just numbers, like computer data.  If the set can make out the numbers, it can assemble a perfect picture every time.

That said, the average home user will not see a difference between the $100 cable and the $10 cable.  Over a 2 meter cable, like most consumers would be using, a digital signal is not going to degrade to the point of causing visible problems.  Look for a cable that is made well mechanically, but don't break the bank.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
