  1. Best is a relative term. On the yardstick with junk at one end and the best possible sound at the other, HTIB's go from about 3" up to 9". Separate component home theaters go from about 6" up to a foot and a half (1.5' or 18" or 1 foot 6 inches) and high end audio goes from about 1' 3" up to 3'.

You can spend anywhere from a few hundred dollars up to hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home theater.

Care to narrow it down a bit for me? What is your budget?

  2. i would say bose lifestyle 48, the sounds amazing and from such small speakers, bt pricey though but amazing

  3. BOSE is junk - they're a marketing company.

They are the only company that doesn't reveal their specs because testing on those crappy Acoustimass systems shows that they have no frequency response from 200Hz up to 280Hz, which is awful as there is plenty of audible information in these passages from the male voice to guitars, drums, etc.

If you are seriously looking for "the best" home theatre system, you will have a price tag of over a million dollars.

Go and audition equipment within your price range using material that you're used to. Take some CD's, spanning different kinds of music you listen to (for example if you like Rock take something full on rockin' as well as something acoustic so you hear a variation of sounds) and perhaps a few passages of movies you like from DVD and spend 10-15 minutes with each set-up. That's how you'll know what YOU willl like.

But again, word to the wise, steer clear of BOSE. They sell $1699 speaker systems that sound worse than $145 speaker systems.
