  1. i like

qh, thoroghbred, warmblood, HANOVARIANS (they are great at jumping), or thoroughbred cross

  2. My opinion.

A thoroughbred or a thoroughbred cross.

  3. A thoroughbred is great at that... reason being is because they have long legs, stamina, energy and lot's of potential. But if it is a first horse i wouldnt reccommend them.

  4. I have an arabian and he jumps great! Its really all about where you want to go in jumping. Do you want to do breed specific show? Or open shows? Or just pleasure? If you want to do Arabian jumping I highly recommend it. The Arabian shows offer great venues and shows for Arabian sport horse/jumping. Also you don't need to be a buy 30,000 horse just to win in the arab division as opposed to the open. If you want to do open shows I would recommend a warmblood of some sort....I wouldn't invest in a thourghbred because they don't exactly have the best resale rate because many believe they hot head.  (Its really more a stereotype) And lastly if you want to do it for pleasure I advise to get a horse that suits you and that seems special. Don't look specifically at the breed but rather what draws  you to a specific horse.

  5. HOnestly, breeds do not matter when it comes to if they are good for english or not. As long as the horse knows his job and can do it well, it wouldn't matter if he was some breed from outer space.

But if you're going to ask for my opinion I'd say QH, I've ridden many QH's before, and I adore them, they all know their job, and sometimes, they might not be the prettiest to look at, but they've all been really good for me.

  6. not an arabian for stuff usually over about 2'6

    they just aren't big enough

a TB, QH or warmblood would work

  7. it depends on the horse's own ability... i would say a thoroughbred or a warmblood... maybe an irish sport horse but those can be hard to find (at least where i live)

  8. mainly thorougbreds, arabians, appendix quarter horses, and warmbloods are used.

  9. A good horse would be a Thoroughbred or Warmblood.

DEFINATELY NOT AN ARABIAN!!!!! They are used for long distanced running.

  10. arabians are not the answer.

they arent good looking at all.

if you like the big ones a clyde thoroughbred cross is nice

and if you dont want something huge a nice thorougbred sport horse is really cute.

for ponies i like the welsh cobs or the connemaras

    the connemaras are ideal.

    :) hope i helped.

  11. I love arabs, but warmbloods and thoroughbreds are much better. If you don't want as high of a price, quarter horses are GREAT!

Reason arabs aren't as good for jumping- arabs are bred for their gaits(which are lovely) the bumpy trot means that the way they are built is not as well suited for jumping. They'll do fine, but probably won't be as competitive at the higher levels. They are smaller(closer to the ground) and will need more power to get as high. With the typical arab build, it is harder for them to get this power.

A thoroughbred/quarter horse cross is probably the best bet until you are ready to start going to warmbloods. There are a lot of good breeds though, and if you find a good horse, breed is not that big of a deal.

  12. Sorry I had to do this cause my score was 666 so i need to be 668

  13. ive ridden a thoroughbred and they can be a bit flighty, but they were ex race horses, id get a tb X id, coz they have the ability to jump and be fast but are quieter than tb's, also maybe an anglo-arab, i used to have one of these, she was an utter witch but gorgus to ride :) or maybe even a hanoverian X ive had on of them too and they are easily trainable with a nice head carriage :)

  14. Oh no no no! Not an arabian, please. They are quite beautiful, and are able to jump, however, they are particularly fussy, temperamental, and not the proper horse to work with in the hunter/jumpers. I have been riding and showing dozens of horses for 11 years now, and personally, I prefer thoroughbreds above any other breed. They most definitey have the jumping capabilities, are strong and honest, and very willing. They can also be found for a very good price. Some other horses like warmbloods are preferred nowadays, and are excellent jumpers, but can be a bit expensive. Try www.equine.com Advanced Search. They are a very reliable, successful, tested tried and true site.  You can type in all of the qualities of the horse you are looking for and end up with a number of good matches.

    Good Luck!!

  15. Well Arabian is a good choice if you want a mainly English horse.  I had an Arabian that i showed hunter and we could jump 3'-4' with no problem.  So an Arabian is a good choice.

Another good choice would be a Thoroughbred, or Thoroughbred-cross.  They are wonderful Jumpers and can be English.  I prefer Arabians just because I've been riding them for about 7 years and i love there personally and talent.  But a Thoroughbred/Thoroughbred-cross would also be a wonderful choice.

Just make sure before you buy if you have a chance to go out and look at the horse in person and give it a test ride to make sure.  because pictures can be deceiving sometimes.   I wish you the best of luck with your horse search and have fun!!

*Also a little hint to anyone testing out a horse.  If they seem a little out of it check there neck to make sure they didn't give them anything that can make them less active.  They do that if the horse is very high ended.

  16. like it was already said-there isn't one set breed for english riding and jumping. Plenty of my friends have crossbreeds and they are fantastic jumpers-they can jump a meter ten, twenty.

I would recommend a Connemara pony though-i have had one for the last 4 years and they are great all rounders and have good strong legs and are in general brilliant jumpers.

  17. There is no 'one' breed for english and jumping. There are many horses that excel at jumping, even if it isn't breed standards to. The most common english horses you'll see though, are thoroughbreds, warmbloods, and some quarter horses. But any horse can jump, such as morgans and arabs, they are beginning to be more noticed in the show ring for their jumping skills. So chose a horse that fits you right and shows jumping talent, even if it isn't the "normal" english horse breed. Good luck!
