We are travelling to Halifax in August and was wondering what is the best hotel or motel, with a budget in mind. I have heard that Dartmouth is scummy...no offense...never been there personally, but there seems to be a lot of hotels in that area. Any suggestions?

  1. It really depends on what you plan to do while in Halifax if you are just planning to park yourself and walk everywhere, Downtown is a good option but most hotels downtown will cost around $200-$250 a night

but may I suggest Premier Executive Suites you can get a full 2 bedroom Condo for the same price or lower and have the conveince of living room kitchen etc which is great when travelling with kids Bishop Landing and Garrison Watch are both right downtown. I few years ago.

  2. If you have budget concerns, you could consider student residences at Dalhousie or St. Mary's Unversity - more like a bed and breakfast.

The Prince George and The Delta Barrington are good bets as family hotels downtown.

Have a great meal at the Old Triangle, and fill your boots in NS.

  3. Hi Sherrie!

We've travelled to Halifax MANY times and prefer the Marriott Harbourfront hotel (kinda spendy though, over $200/night) but have stayed at the Citadel Halifax http://www.citadelhalifax.com/ for about $160. Both hotels are right downtown!  Dartmouth's north end is what it is, there's more crime there than in the rest of the city. (Same as Halifax)

    Hope this helps.

  4. Definitely stay in Halifax, it is nice being able to walk to some of the restaurants.  The Citadel is nice, but an uphill walk from most of the rest of Halifax.  I have heard the Marriott is nice as well.
