What is the best international adoption agency? Whether through personal experience or word of mouth?

Are there any bad ones that you would not recommend? I live in the US.

We adopted internationally and used an agency that only works with families in our state. However, I know many families who've adopted through Holt international and Dillon International, and have had a very good experience.

It depends on the country program.  Some are outstanding with one program and suck at another.  

Stay away from Commonwealth Adoptions.  They are unethical state side and in country, regardless of the program.

I know some that are highly ethical in certain countries.  If you tell us the country programs you are interested in I can recommend some.

We used Wide Horizons for Children.  They are located in many northeast states.  They were great and have contacts in a lot of countries.  

You need to call you state and find out which agencies are licensed there.  Then start asking around for referrals.  You will be surprised at how many lives are touched by adoption.
