  1. I am not aware that the IRB tests or approves knee braces as such. They certainly do test headgear, shoulder pads and body pads for women players, but I believe that knee pads simply have to meet the broad requirements of the laws of the game, covered in Law 4 - Players' Clothing. The relevant piece of the law (Law 4.1) simply states that ...

    "A player may wear supports made of elasticated or compressible materials which must be washable".

    In other words, no metal or hard plastic pieces are allowed. Otherwise, you can take your pick. I am not any authority on knee supports themselves but I would suggest you speak to a sports therapist, physio or doctor before selecting a particular product if you are already suffering from knee problems.
