  1. Karate & TKD

Karate has more power while TKD has more jumps and spins etc.

  2. I would say taekwondo. It has some powerful kicking moves and speed added with power and flexibility makes it an excellent self defense style.

  3. Taekwon Do. Taekwon DO's sidekick is considered the most powerful kick by many.

  4. A number of them are good but TKD puts a lot of emphasis on kicks.

  5. each have their pro's and cons.

there's no such thing as a best art.

  6. taekwondo and i think it was either aikido or takido.

  7. mauy thai and kickboxing.

    Since

    A. no one can stand against them in the ring with kicks.

    B. Pro MMA guys practice mauy thai and kickboxing rather than any other kciking styles.

    C. most armies and police forces faced with a choice of a full contact art for their guys to do will choose kickboxing and muay thai before any other kicking style.

    End of story

  8. There is no such thing.

  9. "the truht" has some okay points, but I will point out that you need to consider what you're learning it for. If you're competing in a ring, his points are valid. If you're not, they are less so. Kicking with the shin can be effective as well as dangerous (The video of the guy who broke his lower leg during an MMA fight is still fresh in my mind). Kicking with the heel can be a better option, since it puts the stress up the whole of the leg instead of cross-wise to the leg.

As for police, military, and special forces, the Hong Kong police equivalent of SWAT uses a high-impact training in wushu for the purposes of self defense hand to hand training. Their kicks are powerful and extremely fast, with a great range of motion. There's a number of extremely viable options for training in kicks. It's not a matter necessarily of the art, but of the devotion one puts into their training.

One whose extent of martial arts exposure is watching MMA and UFC fights should not be considered authority for advice. Please consider doing further research into any and all claims made here before beginning your own training.
