  1. That entirely depends on how rich your parents are.

  2. A Prius is pretty affordable, but for a 16-year-old maybe start with any old car--- a Toyota Corolla for example. Most small cars have better highway/city mileage than others. Research some more... Happy hunting!

  3. It really depends on how much you're willing to spend and what you need.

If you just need a car to go short distances and not very fast, the ZAP Xebra is a great choice.  It only costs $11,700 and only costs 2-3 cents per mile to recharge (as opposed to gas at 13 cents per mile for a 30 mpg car).  However, it only goes about 20 miles per charge with a top speed of 35-40 mph.

If you can afford $20k, you can try to get a Green Vehicles Triac.  Coming out in July it's the first afforable highway speed EV, with a range of 100 miles per charge and top speed of 80 mph.

You can also get a Prius for around $21k (or a used one for a bit less).  That's always a safe bet.  In fact, the 2009 Prius is supposed to be even better than previous model versions, getting over 50 mpg and being more powerful.  It comes out in January '09.

Those are your best bets for saving gas.  Or if you don't have as much to spend, you can also get an electric moped.

Or you can just get a small used car like a Honda CRX which will get decent mileage for cheap.

  4. Try something like a hybrid or something with good gas mileage so you'll get more miles without having to fill up so much.

  5. If you don't have to go very far, look into a bicycle!  Mine has already paid for itself in gas I don't have to buy, and you don't need a license or insurance to use it.  Everything I need fits into my backpack, and if I have something bulky, I can use a rack.  If you absolutely must have a car, though, go for a small car, or the expense of gas will be far greater than your paycheck.

  6. Unless you are rich the smallest newest car you can afford.  Either that or a motorcycle.
