What is the best kind of grass to grow.....?

in a yard that has tons of shade? i have a cedar tree that covers most of the backyard so not much sun gets to it.

More than likely none you will be better off just landscape with mulch pot plants and maybe a park bench. It is hard to get any grass to grow in some conditions. The real problem you will have is keeping enough moisture in the ground for the grass the trees are much larger and will rob the moisture from the grass. Out in my pasture the grass is brown all around every tree out to the drip line. I have green grass everywhere else just not in the root zone of the trees. I am in drought conditions. When there  is plenty rain I have grass under the trees all the way to the trunk.

You can get grass seed that grows in the shade, go to your local garden centre, they will give you all the help you need.
