  1. go to the expence, and buy yourself some Myers. its deep and rich in both color and taste.it is great for both drinking ,baking and cooking, try it you will like it, says bacondebaker

  2. Don't use any rum in a recipe you wouldn't drink.

  3. You don't need a specific kind to use in a cake...use your favorite.

  4. use dark rums or use a rhum agricole like La Favorite or Neisson brands.  They are rich in flavor.

  5. It depends on the cake.  If you want a light rum flavor, use light rum (Captain Morgan's, for instance).  If you want a strong rum flavor, use dark rum.  Pick your favorite brand.

  6. As a chef I always used dark rum for cakes, bananas foster, in fruit compotes and in all dishes, we made a lobster dish with a pink peppercorn sauce vanilla and rum, very nice, but dark rum imparts a richer flavour, and you can buy one of those small flask size 3 oz bottle, I use that and bottle of brandy that size when making my Xmas cakes and Mincemeat pie filling in October, so they age well.
