  1. That is a good question, I did not know there was more that one kind, I would say the old slate, I wll read the other answer to see what they say. Oh and a flat level one pices of slate. I read some answer, but the one fron Life_low, breaks me up if he can not win with a WalMart or off the wall cue, How does he make money, most peole back off the the players that walk in with there own sticks. I use to win with a stick that had a bow in it, every one though they could beat the bowed stick, But I had the tip really work to a T. Turn the bow up and I could suck the ball back to the rall and back to the center of the table.

  2. italian slate

  3. 1 inch or thicker. 3/4" thick slate will be ok if you really need to cut corners on money. I'm not really sure of the best kind of slate, but Italian and Brazilian seem to be the most prevalent.

  4. They guys are all correct in that 1" Italian slate is probably the best and most prevalent product being used on high end tables.

There is another consideration though. I would suggest you use Simonis clothe over a 1" slate to compliment your table. Using anything less over quality slate will make your playing surface suffer.

NOT using a superior clothe would be tantamount to purchasing a cue at Wal Mart and expecting it to play as well as a Mali or Meucci. You would still be able to hit the cue ball the same as with the other cues but the end result of your shooting ability would make it painfully obvious that you're using an inferior cue.

    I hope that helps.
