  1. Buy a 6'8 NSP Surfbetty.

  2. Definitely start on a long board.  They're a lot better for people beginning and you will not be disappointed that you can't stand up after your first couple of times surfing.  If you are planning on surfing a shore break or a place where you do not see many long boarders out, then you should consider a short board although I do not recommend surfing that type of break for your first time.  What ever you decide on, a Hobie surfboard will take you all the way.  I recommend 8'6 to 8'10 for a long board and 5'8 to 6'2 for a short board.

  3. malibu big and slow very stable .

Dont go a 5,10 thruster too small and fast

  4. You definitely want to start with a long board--about 8'4" maybe 8'6". Definitely by a used board! You will ding it up. You can buy a used board for $200-400 and it willl serve you well ( I still like my first board better than my three new ones and it only cost me $250). Enjoy and stay out of harms way.

  5. make your own out of wood

  6. get problably a funboard (hybrid/eggs) there easier to control compared 2 longboards and softops are way 2 bulky. a longboard would probly be to big for u 2

  7. definately get a longboard. they are easier to paddle for beginners like yourself.

don't get a short board until you have some experience.

  8. I'd recommend a Softop in the 7 foot range. If you're 5'1, then that will feel like a long board for you.

A couple reasons Softops are good first boards:

    1) They're cheaper than regular fiberglass boards

    2) They're soft, so you won't crack your head on the board when you wipe out ( and as a beginner you can expect plenty of wipeouts).

Once you learn, you will want to get a fiberglass or epoxy board to take your surfing to the next level, but the softop will do the trick for now. I've had a couple friends who learned on them, and they worked out great.

You'll have to call your local shop to see if they carry them. Most do these days.

    Or check out their site.
