Question:

What is the best knot/hitch for tieing a rope to a tree limb to make a personal rope swing over the water?

The tree is climbable to put the rope out there but if there is a simpler, yet strong, slip knot of some sort, that would be ideal. I would need this to be very strong and permanent. 250lbs strong.

With no disrespect, only experienced rope/knot/hitch answers, please.

  1. A knot called a figure eight follow through.  Unfortunately it's hard to describe how to do it.  You first make a figure eight  with the rope.   When you do make sure you leave enough running end to throw over tree limb.  Take the end you just threw over and follow it back through along side the figure eight knot you made.  Once you do that, finish with a safety hitch.
