I am in high school yearbook so i will be on the sidelines of the football field and such. I was thinking canon and something with good clarity for action. 75-300mm?

  1. really you need a 750mm to capture the action, but if you can get good position a 300mm will will make your yearbook photos sparkle!

  2. The 75-300mm lens should be fine. Just sit up as close as you can to the field.

Use your camera on Tv mode (time value/shutter speed priority). Set your shutter speed to 1/500, and your ISO to 400.

  3. 75-300 should be fine, with the Rebel that will seem like a 480 instead of a 300 due to the cropped sensor.  That is plenty.

However, if you are covering night games, you might have an issue.  Lights are not great at most football fields, including most d3 and d2 and even some d1 college fields.  Having a large aperture would be handy in those cases.  If you are at F5.6 at 300mm, you are going to have too slow a shutter speed at night and get some blur.  Ideally you want a a shutter speed at least 1/focal length.

Rebels do well at ISO 400 but you may see some issues at ISO 800.

    Good luck!
