  1. What linux OS you decide to install for your PS3 depends really on your personal preference and level of expertise. Ubuntu is generally regarded as the most user friendly version of Linux, however, the newest version you can use on the PS3 is 7.10.

Either way, Linux should probably only be attempted if you know what you're doing. It takes a lot of getting used to and ultimately is still regarded as a "geeky" Operating System. On the other hand, there's plenty of support out there for it and usually whatever problem you experience can be found with a quick search online.

Ubuntu can be found here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy...

    (Note: This is 7.10)

A few other Linux OS that work with the PS3 are:

    Yellow Dog Linux (http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/produc...

    OpenSuse (http://software.opensuse.org/)

    Gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml)

    Fedora 8 (http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora)

    Debian (http://www.debian.org/distrib/)

Yellow Dog claims to be the linux made for the PS3 and as such, most guides list how to install Yellow Dog. The following site uses Yellow Dog, however, can be used for most of the listed OS

I recommend running a search on "(Put your chosen Linux OS here) install on PS3" and finding exact directions for the Linux OS and any problems you might find.

  2. yellow dog linux is the recomended version for the ps3 but i wouldint bother unless you know a place where you can buy that linux product and if you do can you tell me????? plz

  3. I started with YDL and changed over to to Kubuntu, though if I started over I would probably go back with YDL.

Ubuntu dropped support for the architecture and development is unlikely to continue. Hardy is such a tremendous improvement over Gutsy - you really want to have the option to have the best possible OS.

Since YDL continues on, it seems to me that you want to go with that unless you have a stable system that you're happy with.
