Hi I have a problem with little black bugs I wanna say gnats I guess the are not fruit fly for sure, they might be baby regular flies well in any case if I could rename them they would just be annoying! But anyway I want to know what the best litter to use is.I am using Yesterdays News and it seems like they are getting out of hand.I use to use extra asorb cat litter(dustless too) and it seem to work better being they never got near it by the way.Yeah the yesterdays is worst I think they can nest in it a h**l alot easy. Please help we are living with my mom untill we can afford to buy a house and she is flipping out and we all can't take it.Thanks Rachel

  1. NO  NO NO----No kitty litter  ,corn cob litter, cedar litter(toxic) etc. Use newspaper and either put several layers and remove top papers as they soil or change paper daily. Takes all of 2 minutes. Kitty litter does not allow observing p**p. p**p changes can indicate changes in health. Also the other litters will harbor molds and insects. When you got a bird you  committed to taking care of it  A clean cage is part of the care. . To wipe down the cage with a damp cloth daily, dump the tray and change the papers shouldnt take more than a few minutes . ----Yogi

  2. You can use shell grit, fine sand. Whats wrong with the kitty litter thats made of clumping clay?, sounds good to me. But I would recomend shell grit as the bird can eat it, use it to digest food, etc, etc...
