I'm traveling up the Maine coast and want to stop at a few lobster pounds, and looking for advice on the best ones in terms of quality, price and view. Thanks.

  1. Red Lobster

  2. Head out to towards Two-Lights State Park, in Cape Elizabeth and follow the signs to the Lobster Shack. Quality is fair, the price is what you'd expect, but the view...whoa! It is one of the most unbostructed views of the Atlantic you can see anywhere...and it just goes on and on forever! Last time I was there we caught a glimpse of a guy waving to us from Portigual...ok I kid, I kid, but it truly is the exactaly what people are looking for in a Maine lobster shack. It's also proximal to Fort Williams state park, which features the George Washington lighthouse, perhaps the most photographed lighthouse in North America.

Further up the coast, in beautiful Bar Harbor in Adelmann's deli. Now there is no immediate view, and the price is a bit high, but you are going to get the best lobster roll you've ever had! I am talking a full lobster in each roll, just enough mayo to coat the meat, but not drown it. These things are well worth the drive out to Bar Harbor all by themselves, but the best part is when you're done you've got the view, shopping, and all around great atmosphere of Bar Harbor to look forward to.

On your way out to Bar Harbor there are also numerous Lobster Shacks, pounds, and restaurants in Ellsworth and Trenton. I can't say I've stopped at any of them, but it does offer you plenty of variety while in the area. Have a great trip!
