if the water is darker, muddier, and polluted try using a dark colored lure so that the fish can see it better. Otherwise your cast has to be right on the money with a lighter colored lure. If it is a clear lake/pond on a sunny day try using a single bladed spinnerbait (I like mini-kings) or a plastic worm slowly crawling on the bottom of the sandy bottom. try floating a plastic frog over lilly pads for bigger bass.

it all depends on conditions. lake, river, pond, weather, time of day, season, and a lot of other stuff. putting all this together and understanding the "patterns" is what it is all about. depending on the conditions you might choose a a blue worm or a red worm or something totally different. everything matters. actually, you have to learn a lot of things. no room here to really tell you. contact dave precht in orlando fla and ask him. bassmasters editor.

There is no one single best lure for bass. Weather & water conditions, time of year and geographic location are some of the variables that need to be taken into consideration when choosing a lure for bass. I would learn to use a few basic lures like a spinnerbait, crankbait and the soft plastics like worms and senkos. Since we are coming into the fall season the bass will be chasing the shad, so shad imitations will work well. Good luck and tight lines!

It all depends on different conditions, but for me soft plastics is the way to go 99% of the time. Get some sharp hooks (EWG), some of the most productive plastics for me are, ribbon-tail worms, frogs, and lizard style baits.
