What is the best means of communicating with my soon to be husband in Iraq?

Hi, I've heard people talking about Vonage, Skype, webcams, IM (hotmail, aol, yahoo, myspace),emails, and of course good old snail mail. And I'm a care package junkie so he;ll be getting a ton of those!

Any suggestions? What worked for you?

I know where troops are based is also an issue when it comes to communication. He will not be in urban areas or near major cities, does this make a huge difference?

How often should we expect to talk per week or month? I know it's better now than when the war first started and I know bases and camps are being "updated."

I would say MySpace and Yahoo are the best ways to talk with him.  Webcams are nice if he can use them and if he is lucky he will have a phone that he could get to once a week but that all depends on where he is at in Iraq.    Nothing makes him feel better then hearing from you both care packages and letters and Pictures of you and the family are a big deal.   I wish you both luck and my prayers are with him.

It all depends on where exactly they are.  My son had great comp use and we im'd almost every day.  I think the longest I went without hearing from him at one time was about 3 days.

My husband lived on a cop. We communicated threw Yahoo instant messenger the most. It cost the less. He can also call you and depending on if he gets a cell phone or not, you can call him. Noble.com sells the best phone cards. But you have to use the minutes or you lose them after time. It can be very expensive to talk to each other on the phone. I would suggest IM. It will be hard because they can't always give you a certain time. I left mine on and set it on loud. So that it would ring when he got on. If I wasn't home he would leave a message or try giving me a call if he could. Web cams are the best. Make sure to have one. Good Luck on the deployment and Congrats on the wedding!
