Question:

What is the best medical insurance for already pregnant woman?

I have to purchase my own health insurance because I left my job recently only to discover that my "small group" aka my employer doesn't cover COBRA, when you leave voluntarily.

At the time we had a makeshift HR dept. so I can't really blame them for not knowing...anyway , now I have to seek out my own insurance and I want to know what is the best plan out there since I am coming out of pocket.

I can't have OB care until I get this. Please don't judge me I was a working executive assistant for a small company and decided to leave to pursue my dreams and get out of the rut of a comfortable job without a future!

Help, thank you!

  1. Sorry to tell you this but no individual medical insurance will pick up someone who is currently pregnant.

Your best bet is trying to find a job with group coverage until after the baby is born.

The next thing you can do is check your states medicaid program, for example in VA if you make less than $25,900 you would qualify.

As a last resort you can also get a maternity card that gets you discounted maternity care.

  2. I wish you the best of luck finding an insurance company that will pick you up after you are pregnant.  None that I have ever worked with would do that, and I worked with them for 20 years.  You may end up having to pay for this pregnancy out of pocket.  If you are single and unemployed, you can try to get Medicade.

  3. The issue is much bigger than just covering the pregnancy. Most insurance policies will not cover ANY preexisting condition. There is much that I can't advise you on with this, because any reputable insurance company OR agent would not sell you insurance without a personal interview. This is especially true with health insurance. But, what I would do is google search for "individual health insurance". There are some fine companies out there that DO provide that. Blue Cross Blue Shield is certainly an option. You may be able to piece together some indemnity policies (reimburse you for already-paid expenses) to minimize your out of pocket. But, I truly think that at least for this situation, you would be well advised to try for Medicaid in your state. Good Luck!

  4. No private policy is going to cover a pre-existing pregnancy.    Likely, they won't give you ANY kind of policy when you're pregnant.

Your only hope is Medicaid, under your state children's health insurance program.  It will cover ONLY the pregnancy related stuff.

  5. blue cross

  6. blue cross, but if you don't have a lot of income get on medicaid its great i had it when i was pregnant. good luck to you and congrats

  7. I'm sure if you look up medical insurance online. They would have plenty of options for pregnant women. You have to follow  your  dreams.Better than being at a job where you hate or feel stuck.

  8. i would think all insurance companies will consider the pregancy a pre existing condition try welfare for the pregancy and get real insurance afterwards

  9. No individual health insurance policy will accept onto coverage someone that is already pregnant BUT it sounds like you may be eligible for a guaranteed issue HIPAA health insurance plan.

Since your company did not offer you COBRA then you may be eligible for this HIPAA health insurance plan that will cover your pre-existing conditions by law (pregnancy).

There are 6 criteria that one must meet in order to be eligible for a HIPAA plan and many agents do not even understand them clearly. Be sure and speak with someone that is familiar with the laws in your state and that can review your personal situation.
