What is the best medieval village on the eurail in France?

Preferably twixt Paris and Venice.

Carcassonne looks spectacular, but it isn´t between Paris and Venice.  Avignon is...southern coast to the east...I don't think it's QUITE on the coast, but near there.

And what is a eurail?  The last time I checked it was a ticket, not a rail line.  I'm pretty sure the nearest thing to your eurail is wherever you are standing and holding it.
