What is the best medium and method for tinting antique maps?

These maps are from 1600 onwards,mainly copper engraved.

  1. Do NOT mess with the natural patina on antiques!!! Why on earth would you want to tint an antique map?? if it is a copy of the map and you want to make it look like the original, sponge tea or coffee gently on the paper. Don't get it too wet, tho.


  2. If you are talking about making a map look antique then tear the edges and wipe a cloth over them which has some black tea on it. Then when it is dry roll it up and put a ribbon round it.

  3. Antique maps acquire their tint naturally, over a period of centuries. Nature takes care of it.
