If you wish to contact someone you used to know simply write the person's name on a piece of paper (red if it was a past love, pink for a family member and blue for friends) then light a white candle in a darkened room. Ask the spirits to send you the person you require, drop the paper into the flame and let it burn. Ask again and imagine the person standing before you in a pool of white light. This will usually call up the person you need.

However, I wouldn't mess around, dark spirits can be called by a Ouija board and messing with this stuff when you're inexperienced, will cause big problems in your life!

(A manifest is the list of items on a ship/plane etc but as question is in M&F I'll assume you mean having a supernatural entity "turn up")

Simplest/Safest way is just to ask them BY NAME to turn up. Usually it's a good idea to offer them something they like (Wine/Wiskey/Vodka/Rum are commonly used. Wonder if common use of alcohol in such ritual is reason for other use of spirit?)

It can be a little tricky/risky, but "obsessing" about the spirit you want can help. here Obsessing means thinking long/hard alowing no distraction to stop you

You cannot manifest a spirit.  You could invite a spirit into your presence, but the spirit would have to draw on energy from its surroundings to manifest itself.
