  1. Your plastic bag and warm water is great. It keeps the food dry and scented and warm water is near to the body temp. of a live rodent. Microwaves tend to cook noses and tails before they thaw the middle.

  2. Thaw your rodent in warm water.  You can do this with them in a plastic bag or not.  Whatever is easiest for you.

If you have enough prep time, you can also let the rodent thaw for a day or two in the refrigerator.

Once the rodent is thawed completely, use a hair dryer on it.  That does two things, it will dry the rodent if it's wet, and it will heat it up above room temperature.  SInce most snakes hunt at least partially by heat sensors, this is important.  The heat tells them this animal is prey.

If it's still not warm enough, you can hold it up to lightbulb briefly just before offering it to your snake.

Microwaving them wouldn't be unhealthy for you, but it would be for your snake.

  3. You've got the best way going right now. Microwave is NOT a good idea. Trust me.

  4. Letting them come to room temp in a bowl of warm water with the mice in a plastic bag...I always gave my snakes fresh live mice they like the hunt and kill philosophy....they don't do well with dead mice.....

  5. i think you already do the best way. i also do the same to warm micesfor my corn snake. the microwave is not a good idea i think.
