  1. I don't currently subscribe to Consumer Reports but I know a little something about this subject out of experience.I recommend you buy a top load washer that has an agitator. If you are in this section for long you will notice every day people asking what to do about their smelly washing machines. I bought one of those sets and returned it and bought a top loader with an agitator. The Calypso type top loaders are just as bad as the front loaders. Put "moldy smell in front load washers" in your search engine and you will see for yourself. Or click this link...http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&...

I can't tell you how thankful I am that I didn't get stuck with that set. I even warned my neighbor not to get a set but she did anyway and the last time I was there her son was complaining that his shirt smelled sour. Sometimes what works really well at first and gets a good rating by these consumer magazines can with time passed turn out to be not so great after all. My sincere advice is, don't do it.

  2. In Consumer Reports, the top rated front-loaders are Bosch and Fisher-Paykel. They consider Frigidaire Gallery GLTF2940F[S] to be a "best buy" -- it's $650, vs $850 for Bosch and F&P. The newest CR washer/dryer data is pretty extensive; sorry I can't go into more detail.

  3. i have the LG tromm steam washer and dryer (in red) and i LOVE them! have had them over a year now w/o any problems!
