  1. you can race in the 85 class or supermini so get an 85 or 100

Edit: two strokes are easier to race because beginers and novice riders tend to race to the corners not through them on a two stroke you won't have to worry about the long spool up of a four stroke

  2. an 85 expert sounds like the best bet. best thing about 85s are that u can buy them fairly cheap about $1300 with plenty of work and aftermarket parts. u cant go wrong.

  3. Have a look at the crf150r as it would be a bit easier to manage than a 2 stroke 85cc for someone who is a novice, as you don't get that power hit.

A lot would also depend upon  how tall a 12 year old you have as sizes of kids vary greatly.  Your best bet is take your son/daughter to a few dealerships to sit on a couple of bikes to get the size right.  And do have a look at the crf150r as I think it would be a good choice.

If you are an Aussie ( as this was posted in the Aussie section) your son/daughter would only be able to race the 85cc/150cc section. Or if they are a really small 12 year old the 65cc class would still be available but that can only be raced till the child turns 13.  Our classes are completely different to those run in America.

    Edit

Go onto the state controlling body of motorsport website in your state.  In Victoria it is www.motorcyclingvictoria.com and if you go to that one there is links to the other states.  You can then find local clubs in your area and have a look in the classifieds sections to find what price ranges you would be looking at. If you were intending on buying new then just go to a couple of dealerships in your area.  If you are looking at a 65cc then the kx would probably be the cheaper one for you.  Same deal with an 85cc.  You would need the small wheels version if looking at either the kx85cc or the crf150r.  Aussie prices are more than what the guys in America can get a bike for so don't go by the American price suggestions.

  4. If he can handle a YZ100 cc Yamaha, I would go with that. I had a 12 year old cousin that could handle that type of bike.

  5. I'm with Auburn on this all the way. A 150R 4 stroke would be much easier for a novice than an 85 2 stroke.

  6. You should be looking at a honda crf80 or crf 100 if he is just riding around for fun but if he wants to do motorcross brobably look at a kx85 small wheel or a yz85 i would reccomend a crf150r if he is doing motocross because he can also grow into it but you can lower it. If he just wants one to muck around on i would reccomend the klx140.

  7. p-wee 50 if you dont want em to go to fast or if u want something faster a p-wee 80 or a125

  8. well if he has never rode before, the best bike would be a bike w/o a clutch like the tt-r110 which has 4 gears w/o a clutch. and if he has but could do with a bid more practice a kx85 would be the best because of it's forgiving power valve system, which will let him make a little more mistakes. hope this helps.
