  1. Pittsburgh.

  2. The highest class live in "La Moraleja", another high class and full of fancy boutiques square is "Barrio de Salamanca"

  3. Salamanca is a beautiful neighborhood, with pretty buildings and is considered very high-class. There's not as much nightlife as some of the other areas, but it has a decent amount of shopping and places to eat.

  4. It all depends on your lifestyle. One of the best things about Madrid it that it has a little bit of everything, there is something for everybody, for every type of lifestyle and moods.

If you are on a loose budget, married with kids and very settled... i´d say go for La Moraleja, Las Rozas or any of the "barrios" (neighborhoods) that are out of the center. Very Relax, calm.

If you are still on a loose budget and wanna be near the jetsetters, go for Serrano, Hermosilla, Goya. Its expensive, classy, executive, beautiful.

If you are g*y or happen to be very fund of them or just don´t mind them,... go for Chueca !! There is a huge g*y community living in this area. Very cool, relax, excentric and fun area !, lot of cool bars and shops... even for someone who is not g*y... just remember to keep an open mind !!!.

Huertas and Sol, and Callao are the "downtown" of the city. You´ll find lots of small bars and people. Very noisy, specially at nights. Apartments are usually very expensive and old.

If you are a student and want to be near your academic institution, you should check Arguelles, San Bernardo, Moncloa, which are very close to serveral academic institutes.

Avenida de Brasil and Juan Bravo have lots of big discos but is known for being frecuented by spoiled "daddys little boys and girls" (pijos).

Manuel Becerra, Ventas, Diego de León, and Avenida de América, are practical areas to live in, you can get almost anywhere in a few minutes, you can find apartments at a reasonable price and have residential areas.

These are just some of the areas or barrios of Madrid... most of them are very centric, however.. there are still lots of other choises in the periferical areas.
