I would say actually the West Village (Greenwich Village). So much to do. East Village is also pretty interesting, but I like the West much more. Delicious restaurants, too.

Also, midtown is very happening. Times Square, theater district, etc. Unfortunately, there are more hotels for tourists than apartments for locals.

Soho is very nice, very trendy, as is TriBeCa and Chelsea.

Honestly, you will have a good time no matter where you live, just stay away from the troublesome parts like Harlem and you'll be fine.

i think on 2nd ave between 8th st to maybe 40th its a nice neighborhood you have alot of things around you dont gota go to far for things
