What is the best (new or used) compact or midsized automobile on the market.

Question

I currently own a '03 Jetta, which I have had a lot of problems with. I would like to get a new vehicle that is decent on gas and moderately priced. I also travel on roads that could get rough in the winter. I have been admiring the Ford Fusions. Anyone have any feedback on them? I currently still owe on my car and probably would not get quite as much as it is worth. I know this is a no no, but is there anyway to make this work to my advantage? Thanks : )

Well, if the roads are a problem in the winter, any Subaru would be the ideal choice. Yeah the Ford is nice, but you have to get the pricey V6 model to actually make it worth owning. Consider a small suv like a Nissan Rogue SL AWD or a Honda CR-V. Those would be nice I should think.

Chevrolet Malibu, good gas mileage, highly rated, we have a 98 that has over 150,000 miles on it with minimal maintenance and still drives like a new one.
