  1. Odorless isn't possible, but these three foods don't have a strong odor:  Wellness Core, Innova Evo or Nature's Variety Instincts.

Because of this your cat may be reluctant to try them.  What I suggest is mixing some in with the regular food and gradually decrease the old while increasing the new.  Put both in a separate container while you do the mixing/adjusting process.

By letting crumbs of the old food coat the new, the scent will stick to the new food and make it more tempting.

Plus doing it this way gives your cat time to adjust to the new food, digestively speaking.

  2. The Good Life Recipe is a decent cat food, and it isn't as odoriferous as other cat foods I have tried. Most dry foods are going to smell less, just be careful, choose the foods with the least filler and by products.

  3. Cats were never meant to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We, humans, make them eat it for convenience to us. It has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It's completely species inappropriate.

All small domestic cats descended from desert cats. In the wild, desert cats derive their entire liquid intake from their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they don't need it when eating a species appropriate diet. They get all they need from what they eat. Additionally water was usually not available to them in their desert climate. So they do not often drink water. Regular ol' house cats have descended from those same wild desert cats.

So in a home environment, your kitty does not get the moisture it needs from dry food and it’s almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to TRY to get your cat to drink more and your kitty may even enjoy it, but it will never meet its water intake needs drinking from a bowl.

Deadly feline illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure, obesity, allergies, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), bladder stones, kidney stones,  urinary tract blockages and Urinary Tract Infections (FLUTD), with and without deadly crystals run rampant these days. Cats are not taking in enough water to stave them off. Proper water intake through a species appropriate diet alone can prevent most of these conditions.

Overall,  wet is all around better for any cats diet, be it canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we wish to most closely match their wild nutritional and dietary needs. Kibble meets our needs… not our cats.

I recommend varying the diet with a constant rotation of accepted canned foods that your cat enjoys. If you do this, and allow your cat the same assortment they would have in nature when eating mice, bugs, birds and rabbits, your cats’ digestive system won't be so sensitive and you won't have to run around looking for a specific brand when your store is out. You will have a nice variety to choose from instead.

Canned foods I recommend for your rotation:

  4. Honestly, you don't want an less stinky brand of cat food. Your cat will eat his food based off of smell not taste. That is why when cats have upper respiratory infections they sometimes won't eat well if at all.

If I can redirect you, I want you to look at your cat food choice a little differently. I would look for a premium quality pet food for your cat instead of choosing based off of smell. You will get more bang for your buck this way. Higher quality pet foods means more nutrition and less bulk (what goes in must come out and if it comes out bulk then we have more..... in the litter box). Think quality is better smell, better taste, and better health. Some pet foods are made with more grains then meat protein which can cause obesity in cats and lead to diabetes for fatty liver disease. Some lower quality pet foods have higher contents of ash which can cause feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) which can lead to blockages. (ie. late night emergency visit because your cat can't pee because he was on the wrong diet).

You might also want to consider that some lower quality cat foods will use used and emulsified restaurant grease to make it smell.

Just some food for thought. I like Pro Plan myself and it doesn't smell up the house, but if you really wanted to go high quality for your cat Purina DM is the stuff (but it's expensive). Avoid the urinary tract health diets and just go with a regular adult formula.

  5. Try a healthier cat food, that might not smell as bad, but you are not going to find an odorless cat food, and think about it, would you want to eat something that has no smell to it for your main diet.                  No smell=no flavor

  6. The problem with this question is that cats are primarily drawn to food from their noses.  When they are all stuffed up with an upper respiratory infection, a lot of times they stop eating which is why food like a/d (really smelly prescription food) exists.  If you try some of the higher end food, you might get away with less smell, but I doubt you'll find an odorless one.  Maybe try an air purifier in the area?

  7. I have always used "Science Diet" dry cat food, as recommended by several cat-owning friends and two veterinarians.

I have never noticed a smell, except when I am immediately next to the bowl of cat food.

All cat food will have SOME smell, though.
