  1. I watched Paula Dean make donuts using canned biscuit dough.  She used peanut oil.

  2. I would go with corn or vegetable oil.  You want something with a high smoke point.  Donuts demand searing oil if their to turn out right.

  3. 100 percent vegetable oil. Mild in flavor. You don't want olive for this. You don't want lard or tallow, animal fats tend to burn too soon.

I recommend Canola oil. That is what I use now. I used to use a commercial shortening for the fryer.

If these are yeast donuts, try to get the live fresh yeast rather than using the "instant dry yeast". Dough with the dry yeast fails really fast in the fryer. Fresh yeast works much better.

Fresh yeast is found in the dairy case, always refrigerated.

  4. vegetable oil is good but if your more italiany then use olive oil hope i helped!!!

  5. I like a good vegetable oil and fry them between medium and high heat if you don't have a deep fryer.

  6. I have used either Canola or Peanut oil for donuts.  Either one can be heated to a high enough temperature to fry the donuts and not have the oil smoking.
