  1. strep throat is a serious infection that NEEDS appropriate antibiotic treatment.  If left untreated for more than a week or two it can (and often does) enter the blood stream and start growing on heart valves.  This is called rheumatic fever.  People used to die of this all the time before antibiotics.  You'll find many older people have to have heart valve replacements due to rheumatic fever as a child.  Go to the doctor!!!!

  2. I could be wrong but i think strep throat is a infection that requires antibiotics. If untreated it can cause the infection to spread. Try a nurse practitioner or physicians assistant, or first aid clinics, they can prescribe but the cost is less. also most cities have public health clinics that charge on a sliding scale. Have someone look with a flash light down your throat if they see white spots it is strep but you may have something else going on. Do get check out

  3. What these people mentioned above about strep being an important infection to treat is correct....it can definitely lead to adverse effects if left untreated.  However, it is not completely necessary to get a pharmaceutical antibiotic.  Using natural antibiotics (such as a good berberis complex of herbs) and probiotics can be just as effective as pharmaceutical antibiotics (without the adverse side effects). I've used this many times and it works very well!  Just don't leave the strep throat completely untreated!

  4. There is no great otc medicine for strep throat.  If you allow the infection to stay you risk a serious medical problem.  Isn't there a sliding scale clinic someplace near you.  Search online maybe, the rates there can be very minimal is you don't amke much.  Also gargling with salt water helps, along with tylenol, and echinacea and goldenseal are always great infection fighters.  However these are higher priced herbs and you could be saving money by going to a sliding scale clinic.

  5. Go to the health food store and get a nasal spray with Xylitol in it.  Xylitol kills the strep bacteria.  You can also find xylitol as a sweetener (to put in coffee, etc) but more than a serving size will cause diarrhea.  You may also be able to use an herbal antibiotic, such as grapefruit seed extract, for strep throat.  You put a couple of drops in a bottle of water, shake, and drink it.  Always follow the directions on the package and consult a qualified health care professional.  Both prescription antibiotics and herbal antibiotics will kill off the good flora in your intestines.  You will need to replace it with a good probiotic supplement.  Alternate between bifidofactor supplements and lactobacillus supplements.
